0 – Chelsea fail to make an impact in final third
One of the most astonishing statistics to surface from Manchester United’s victory was that Chelsea failed to complete a single pass in the United penalty area for the entire 90 minutes.
For a side that have scored the third-highest number of goals (65) in the Premier League this season they truly failed to make any sort of impact on the Manchester United back-line all afternoon, falling in to a pattern of losing the ball too carelessly on the edge of the area and lacking in communication.
This isn’t a one-off this season either; during their 2-0 loss at White Hart Lane over the festive period they only completed one inside the opposition box and they seem to be unable to grind out chances.
Nemanja Matic, normally so calm and composed at the heart of the Chelsea midfield, was anonymous up against the challenge of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellani, not winning a single aerial duel or tackle and unable to make any clearances or interceptions either in an uncharacteristic off-day.
With an FA Cup semi-final date against their fierce London rivals next weekend, Antonio Conte will need to get to the bottom of their attacking woes from Sunday and set them straight again.
