Sir Alex left the club in a mess
Everyone knew United were about to enter a transition post Fergie, and the Moyes and early LVG era have been tougher than initially anticipated, however, a lot of the issues with the squad are being blamed on the aforementioned two individuals.
Manchester United circa 12/13 were Champions yet the depth of the squad was running on empty.
Fully reliant on the goals of the recently acquired Robin Van Persie, and the collapse of Manchester City, this was a team that needed significant rebuilding, and SAF knew that going out on a high aged 71 was a perfect end to his legacy, and that another reboot was probably beyond even him.
This was a squad lacking a creative midfielder, a robust destroyer CDM, and leaders to take on the mantle of soon to be departing club veterans.
Players such as Mata, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Shaw have been brought in to try and fix this, but many would agree that United are still very much a work in progress in terms of the squad.
