United are not on the same level as some of Europe’s top clubs.
Hands up who thought that Man United would be challenging the Champions League this year?
Now roll back 8 years or so, and ask the same thing.
There are many who still describe United as “the best club in the world”, or “the biggest club in the world”, but this simply isn’t the case, despite what Adidas may tell you.
Even the most stringent Red would surely put United behind the “big 3” of Barca, Bayern and Madrid. However, it could be argued that they are now behind the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and even Arsenal in terms of elite pulling power, or at least, at a stage where players are not instantly swayed by Old Trafford, and will weigh up their options.
One only needs to look at the rumours thrown around (Neymar, Bale, Ronaldo, Muller etc), to learn that there is still a feeling that United are on the same level as the big boys. However, it would be hard to argue the case at the moment.
