It is not the 20th Century anymore

The Class of 92 brings with it a certain sense of romantic nostalgia. So much so, that some Manchester United fans are insisting that the club invests in not only a manager that gets time, but one that will bring through young players, loyal to the club, who live and breathe Man United.

If it was remarkable that the planets aligned so neatly in the early 90s, it is almost impossible to think of something similar now.

The rise of the oil rich clubs, as well as both player and agent power, mean that heads are turned early and ultimately, a dynasty can only be built if success is achieved from the outset.

An adage that gets repeated many times is that in modern times, Sir Alex would not have got the time that was awarded in his early days, and this is as true as ever. The average lifespan of a Premier League manager is just over 2 years (this factoring in the near 20 year reign of Arsene Wenger), and nowadays, with the developments in the game (positive and negative), the steady building of a legacy hardly an option anymore.
