Spurs ace Bryan Gil fitness update issued after Spain U21s substitution
Spurs ace Bryan Gil delivered an impressive performance for Spain U21s last night.
The 20-year-old captained La Rojita to a 4-1 win over Russia in U21 European Championship qualifying.
However, the Tottenham ace’s evening finished on a worrying note as he suffered a knock late on.
Although Gil was able to walk, he appeared to be limping, so head coach Luis de la Fuente opted to take him off in the 79th minute.
“Gil has left the field with some physical discomfort,” MD‘s live match commentary said.
Luckily, the Spain U21s boss was able to provide a positive update on the Spurs newcomer.
“Bryan Gil is fine,” De La Fuente said at his post-match press conference, as per the Spain Twitter account.
“He is a player who gives his all, never leaves anything in the tank.
“He was just very tired, thankfully he hasn’t got a problem.”
Gil picked up an assist in the victory over Russia in Almendralejo and was a constant thorn in the opposition’s side.
The Tottenham gem drove up the left flank and set up Yeremi Pino, who fired home a low effort from range to put Spain in the lead in the second half.
Russia had taken the lead but the hosts drew level by the break and then went on to win by three goals in the end.
Up next for La Rojita is a U21 European qualifier away in Lithuania on Tuesday evening.
