Tottenham and Chelsea played out an utterly mad fixture tonight as the away side eventually ran out 4-1 winners.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were soundly beaten in the end but not before a chaotic night had seen red cards, disallowed goals and penalties awarded. In the end, Nicolas Jackson managed a hat-trick to end his drought and boost his stat line.

For Tottenham, it was finally the end of their unbeaten run and it means they now sit behind Manchester City in the race for the title.

However, Spurs’ fans were still pretty happy with what they saw. And at full-time, despite losing 4-1, the home crowd still had it in them to cheer their side and applaud their efforts.

And watching on for Sky Sports, Gary Neville admitted he was amazed by what he saw.

Gary Neville praises Tottenham fans at full-time v Chelsea

Speaking as the final whistle went in North London, Neville admitted he couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing from the Tottenham fans.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a team beaten 4-1 and still see them get a standing ovation. It was a mad, mad night,” Neville said.

The Spurs fans have become accustomed to seeing their team go for it and that’s exactly what they did v Chelsea tonight, even with nine men.

However, in the end, it proved a bit of a useless tactic as Chelsea’s running in behind with pace eventually got them the goals they needed to get over the line.

For Nicolas Jackson, it was dreamland really as he tucked home a couple of easy finishes to really boost his confidence.

As for Ange Postecoglou, there will be a lot for him to take away. And while there’ll be positives, it will be interesting to see if he does change tact at some point in the future.

On this evidence, though, we can’t see that coming too soon.
