‘Firmino-esque’: Some fans react as reported Everton and Newcastle target scores on Bundesliga return
Reported Everton and Newcastle United target Yussuf Poulsen was in action today as the Bundesliga returned after a two-month hiatus.
Sport Bild claimed in April that the Toffees and the Magpies, as well as Premier League rivals West Ham, were keeping tabs on the Denmark international.
The RB Leipzig forward had fallen behind summer signing Patrik Schick in the pecking order since Julian Nagelsmann took over at the Red Bull Arena, leading to speculation over his future.
However, Poulsen was given the nod in Leipzig’s starting XI in their first game back from the shutdown, a home fixture against Freiburg.

Leipzig were wasteful on the day as they laboured to a 1-1 draw and lost further ground on Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich – who play tomorrow – in the title race.
They had 17 shots, seven of which were on target, they could only score once, while Freiburg had three shots, only one of which was on target – the game’s opening goal.
Manuel Gulde’s 34th minute opener came against the run of play, and the Red Bulls had to wait until 13 minutes from time before Poulsen emphatically headed home their equaliser.
There was late VAR-related drama too, as Robin Koch slotted home what seemed to be a 93rd-minute winner for Freiburg, only for VAR to rule there had been an offside in the build-up.
What did fans make of Poulsen’s display? Here is some of the social media reaction:
Yussuf Poulsen equalises for Leipzig v Freiburg. Great talent I’m surprised nobody from the Premier League has had a look at.

He has been quite good in linkup play this game but his finishing has just let him down. Happy he has got a goal though

Yousef Poulsen equalized
Very very underrated striker
Firminosque
Arsenal should sign him perhaps?
Reason why Werner gets crazy numbers— . (@karthik_jammy) May 16, 2020
Bale at right wing Yussuf at CF. Funds are no problem for them now.

RB Leipzig looks every bit a Champions League team whenever I see them. Plenty of possession, control in advanced areas, key men putting in key performances. Werner, Kampl & Poulsen very impressive. Denied a result only really by an inspired Schwolow in goal for Freiburg.
