Alan Shearer has lauded ‘key’ Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Llorisand named him in his Premier League Team of the Week.

Tottenham got back to winning ways at the Amex on Saturday evening after beating Brighton 1-0. Harry Kane got Spurs off to the perfect start to the game as reacted brilliantly to what appeared to be a Heung-Min Son shot.

Spurs put in a much-improved display after a disappointing 3-1 defeat in the north London derby and the goalless draw in Frankfurt. But the Seagulls fought back in the second-half and put Spurs and Lloris under pressure.

The Frenchman made some key saves to deny Roberto De Zerbi’s men and now Shearer has named Lloris in his Premier League Team of the Week.

Shearer lauds Lloris

Speaking to the Premier League’s official website, Shearer says Lloris made some important saves in a close encounter with Brighton.

He said: “In a match of fine margins, the captain made key saves as Spurs marked the death Gian Piero Ventrone with a win their late fitness coach would have been proud of.”

It was a massively important win for Conte’s side after what was an emotional week for everyone at the club. Last week, Tottenham announced that fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone had sadly passed away.

The Italian coach joined the club with Conte back in November 2021 and had made a huge impact on the Spurs squad.

Just two days later, Conte’s men took to the pitch and secured three points at the Amex Stadium.

Shearer is right in saying that it was a performance that Ventrone would have been proud of. Spurs showed admirable grit to grind out a positive result after a difficult week.

Lloris stepped up with some vital saves and looked much-improved after an error in the north London derby the week before.

The 35-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down and has come up big when required for Spurs this season.
