'Final details and then done deal': Fabrizio Romano shares Arsenal transfer update
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal have all-but agreed a deal for Matt Turner to join this summer.
The Gunners have been looking for a new goalkeeper amid speculation linking Bernd Leno with a move away.
Leno has lost his Arsenal first-team place to Aaron Ramsdale, who arrived at the Emirates last summer.
Negotiations between the Gunners and New England Revolution over Turner have stepped up in recent days.
“As speculated, there’s a chance we could lose Matt Turner,” Revolution coach and director Arena said on 98.5 radio, the Sports Hub, via Eurosport.
“If things work out the right way we will lose him in the summer.
“We are in negotiations with Arsenal to complete the transfer. The likelihood of that happening is pretty strong.”
Now, ESPN journalist Taylor Twellman has reported that Arsenal and Revolution have agreed terms on a summer transfer for Turner.
And Fabrizio Romano, taking to Twitter, has elaborated on Twellman’s report:
The move suggests that Leno will remain with Arsenal for the rest of this season.
Turner became first-choice at Revolution in 2018 and has been a mainstay ever since, making 107 league, cup and playoff appearances.
He was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021, a campaign in which he was also named the MVP of the MLS All-Star Game.
Turner has enjoyed a similar rise at international level, making 13 appearances for the USMNT.
He helped his nation triumph in the Gold Cup and won the Golden Glove award as the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
Turner has been vying with Manchester City’s Zack Steffen to be the United States No 1.
