‘Few seasons ahead’: Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich makes exciting claim

Mateusz Klich has claimed that he is not content with simply helping Leeds United reach the Premier League, insisting that there are a few seasons at the highest level ahead for him – in comments reported by the Daily Mail.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been a very welcome addition to English football’s top table. They play an exhilarating brand of football. And they look to be well on their way to ensuring that they will remain in the top flight for a second successive year.

Klich has remained a stalwart of Bielsa’s plans. The Poland international played in and started 93 of the 94 Championship games Bielsa oversaw. And he has been an ever-present this year, starting 19 of their 21 games.

It has been a remarkable run for Klich. The midfielder looked destined to be remembered as a terrible signing after being written off during Thomas Christiansen’s tenure.

But it appears that Klich has no intention of simply being content with his lot now that he is a Premier League player.

“We seem like we can play to 150 per cent of our capacity [because of Bielsa], because we have all played the best football in our lives and we are all in the best physical condition,” he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“But making it to the Premier League is one thing. I don’t want to play a couple of games and just be forgotten. There are a few seasons ahead of me.”

Of course, Klich’s comments are particularly interesting given his age. He turns 31 in June. So in normal circumstances, it would appear that he may be edging towards the end of his peak.

However, Klich is potentially playing some of the best football of his career this season. He has already matched his tally for assists from last year.

And given the fitness levels running right through Bielsa’s side, there looks to be no way that anyone can write off Klich emulating Pablo Hernandez and making an impact when he is 35 and into the twilight of his career.
