Fernando, Bacary Sagna, Ruben Dias and plenty more react as Manchester City post Tuesday announcement
Manchester City announced on Tuesday that Fernandinho has signed a new contract with the Premier League champions. The Brazilian veteran will now remain with Pep Guardiola’s side for another season, and posted on Instagram. Plenty has responded to the news, including Bacary Sagna.
Fernandinho, 36, was out of contract on Wednesday. Having clocked up 350 appearances for City in eight years, he remains as important to the club as the day he signed. During his time at City, Fernandinho has won four Premier League titles, six Carabao Cups and an FA Cup.
He is up there with the likes of David Silva, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero when it comes to modern Manchester City legends. But unlike the latter, he will not be leaving on a free transfer this summer. Indeed, he posted on Instagram after it was confirmed he would be staying put for 2021-22.
What have Sagna and others told Manchester City man Fernandinho?
Even last season, Fernandinho still clocked up 36 appearances in all competitions for his club. Guardiola is a massive fan of the work he does between defence and midfield – allowing the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan to get forward. He is a top, top player, despite his age.
It was recently claimed that Fernandinho was ready to leave Manchester City. But it seems Guardiola has moved to keep the veteran – despite the presence of Rodri.
Plenty his responded to his Instagram post. Former Manchester City star Sagna told Fernandinho that he “deserves it”, while Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker both commented. Fernando also commented, telling Fernandinho: “Congratulations, well deserved. God bless you.”
