Fernandes set for West Ham return this summer with Fiorentina not intending to buy

Fiorentina will not take up the purchase option in their loan deal for West Ham midfielder Edimilson Fernandes, according to Corriere Fiorentino, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

They report that Fernandes has not done enough to impress during his time on loan with the Serie A club, opening the door for him to return to the London Stadium during the summer.

The 22-year-old has not set the world alight at West Ham but the midfield injuries Manuel Pellegrini has suffered this season may convince him to keep him around next season.

Alternatively, an unimpressive loan spell may force Pellegrini to offload the midfielder, bringing in some cash and clearing the £30k per week Spotrac claim he earns, off the wagebill.

In truth, it looks as if Fernandes isn’t quite good enough for the level West Ham want to get themselves to – playing attractive football while being in the Premier League’s top ten on a regular basis.

If he cannot impress out on loan, then it’s unlikely Pellegrini will want to keep a player around he let go despite being so desperate for midfield improvements during the summer that he got ageing Aston Villa flop Carlos Sanchez through the door during the summer.
