Ferdinand slams those who said Conte was not right for Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that anyone who said Antonio Conte was not right for Manchester United needs to shut up after Tottenham Hotspur’s performance at the weekend.
It is turmoil at Old Trafford right now. Erik ten Hag’s men have lost their opening two games in the Premier League. And the manner of their defeats against Brighton and Brentford have been particularly alarming.
Ten Hag is not blameless. But clearly, he is not the big problem at Manchester United right now. Everything going on right now has been on the cards for some time.
Of course, over the years they have been linked with Conte. However, some have insisted that the club cannot approach the Italian as he is not right for them. Gary Neville is amongst those who have warned Manchester United about moving for Conte.
‘This guy shows the passion’
Conte however, now finds himself at Tottenham. And the early signs suggest that he could help transform the club while in North London.
The standards have risen considerably. And Spurs now have a squad that clearly has the potential to push for trophies.
Tottenham displayed their fighting spirit on Sunday as they came from behind on two occasions to earn a point against Chelsea.
The Blues were much the better side. But the way Spurs fought their way to a point really impressed Ferdinand. In fact, the pundit no longer feels that anyone can argue that Conte would not be right for his old club.
“All the people who said – we’ve got Ten Hag, I’m happy we’ve got Ten Hag, don’t get me wrong – but all the people who said that Conte wasn’t for Man United need to shut up,” he told his YouTube channel.
“Because this guy shows the passion, the desire, the will. He had the England captain and the Golden Boot winner from last season in a heap in pre-season on the sidelines, spewing up.”
Conte not right for Manchester United?
Conte did not have the easiest start to life at Tottenham. And with that, you would imagine that he would not able to solve all of United’s issues if he ended up at Old Trafford.
But United are a shell of the club they were a decade ago. One manager will not address all of the problems. But Conte is absolutely a winner.
His demands would improve standards at a number of levels. And if he did not get his way, he would walk away, leaving the United hierarchy to face even more criticism.
