Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that he cannot believe that Harry Kane was named the official man of the match after England beat Senegal in their last 16 tie at the World Cup.
Gareth Southgate’s side are through to the quarter-final in Qatar after a professional display against the AFCON champions. England weathered an early storm to score twice before the break.

Kane was involved in the build-up to the opener. And he opened his account for the tournament to double England’s lead at the end of the first-half. It was a superb finish from the Tottenham talisman.
Ferdinand baffled as Kane is named man of the match
Nevertheless, it is surely fair to say that Kane’s display was completely overshadowed by the performance from Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old absolutely stole the show for the Three Lions.

A star has absolutely been launched in this tournament. And Bellingham has surely ensured that he will start every remaining game left for England in this competition.
Perhaps surprisingly however, Kane was named as the man of the match. And when he learned of the decision, Ferdinand expressed his dismay.
“Who gave him man of the match? Wow, they must have just wanted a photo opportunity because Bellingham was the standout player,” he told his YouTube channel.
In fairness, Kane was also outstanding. His goalscoring record so far does not do justice to how good he has been, helping to get England in the last eight with little fuss.
Of course, neither Kane or Bellingham will be particularly bothered. Ultimately, they will be aware of how well they did to see off a very good Senegal side which had the potential to cause England a lot of problems.
Certainly, neither will care a jot who wins the remaining man of the match awards if they ultimately get their hands on the World Cup trophy later this month.
