‘Feels like a steal’: Pundit says Tottenham have made ‘one of the best signings of any Premier League club’

Tottenham Hotspur have gotten a lot wrong over the past 18 months.

Last summer’s transfer window ended up being a bit of a mess, Antonio Conte’s final six months at the club was a car-crash, while the whole Cristian Stellini/Ryan Mason saga was laughable.

However, Tottenham headed into this summer with something of a clean slate under a new manager, and they’ve made a few smart decisions lately.

The signings of Micky Van de Ven and Manor Solomon have been exciting, while according to Gregor Robertson, speaking on The Game Football Podcast, James Maddison may well be one of the best signings any Premier League club makes this summer.

Maddison signing of the summer

Robertson gave his verdict on the midfielder.

“I don’t think that’s been resolved, and I don’t think they have done quite enough in the transfer window yet. James Maddison, I put him up as one of the best signings of any Premier League club in the summer. £40m feels like a steal in the current market and his numbers are as good as anyone bar Kevin De Bruyne really in the Premier League,” Robertson said.

Brilliant

Say what you will about the circus around Tottenham this summer, the signing of Maddison is one piece of business that can’t be knocked.

The midfielder is a proven Premier League commodity, and as Robertson says a £40m fee for a player who has proven he can do it at this level year on year is a great price.

Whether or not Tottenham’s summer window can be judged as a success depends on what happens between now and the end of the window, but regardless of anything else, it’s hard to see the signing of Maddison backfiring.
