Newcastle United defender Federico Fernandez expressed his delight on social media after he penned a contract extension at St James’ Park on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old Argentine has penned a new deal that keeps him on Tyneside until 2021 and he’s been an important player in Steve Bruce’s squad this season.
He’s played 25 games across all competitions this campaign and popped up with two goals.
The Magpies confirmed on their official website that they activated a one-year option in the centre-backs contract to extend it.
Fernandez shares his excitement on Instagram about his new deal, with Newcastle loanee Rolando Aarons showing his support with his response.
Aarons, 24, is a Magpies winger currently out on loan with Scottish club Motherwell and it’s the fifth different team he’s been loaned out too.

TBR’s View:
Fernandez is certainly an integral part of the Newcastle defence this season, so keeping him on for another year seems a no-brainer and there is no doubt that a stern backline is playing a major role in the club heading towards Premier League safety for another year.
He is an experienced centre-back that reads the game so well, can play out from the back, as well as being confident in possession.
Fernandez has started the last 20 league games in succession to prove his value and has been a brilliant £6million (BBC) signing from Swansea City.
