7 – Fatigue could begin to play a part for Manchester United
Manchester United’s trip to Burnley on Sunday will be their seventh game in the space of just 23 days in April, and it begins to beg the question of whether fatigue will catch up with them.
With an incredibly hard-working victory over leaders Chelsea sandwiched between back-to-back Europa League ties with Belgian side Anderlecht, Jose Mourinho hasn’t been afforded the opportunity to rest players as the fixture list piles up due to the importance of each individual game.
Since the beginning of the calendar year alone, United will be playing their 24th game in just 113 days at Turf Moor; by comparison their opponents have only played 18 in the same time-frame.
Could this be an advantage for Burnley?
It certainly could be, especially considering the fact that defensive duo Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo have played every minute of the games already played in April, whilst Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Marouane Fellaini have all made an appearance at some point across the same matches.
United’s strength in depth is far superior to their opponents, and they do have the resources to continue their relentless unbeaten run towards the top four, but it won’t be an easy task on Sunday.
