‘Fastest player’: Allan Saint-Maximin says Newcastle United have another rapid player who’s just as quick as him

Allan Saint-Maximin has told the Premier League’s YouTube channel that Newcastle United have another rapid player in Joe Willock who is just as quick as him.

Saint-Maximin is known for his blistering pace and trickery in Newcastle’s front-three.

Newcastle have a range of quick players in the team, with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak boasting brilliant pace.

Saint-Maximin seems the obvious choice for the quickest player at the club but he has surprisingly named Willock as the player who can keep up with him.

Saint-Maximin on Willock

Speaking to the Premier League’s official YouTube channel, Saint-Maximin was asked who the fastest player at Newcastle is.

He named himself as the quickest player but also threw Willock’s name into the conversation.

He said: “Fastest player in the club would be me or Joe Willock, I would say.”

Willock has impressed since making the switch from Arsenal last year, but it is surprising to hear that he can match Saint-Maximin in terms of speed.

The Newcastle winger is probably one the quickest players in the league and terrorises opposition defences with his direct running.

But it seems that Willock is the only player at Newcastle who comes close to keeping up with the Frenchman.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a run in the Magpies side of late and got on the scoresheet against Southampton over the weekend.

Saint-Maximin is still easing his way back into action after being sidelined with a hamstring injury since the end of August.

He has made two substitute appearances over the past week but will be hoping to force his way back into the side soon.

The Magpies are flying high at the moment and currently sit third in the Premier League. Eddie Howe will be hoping his side pick up a positive result against Chelsea on Saturday and head into the World Cup amongst the top-three.
