SELL
Dimitri Payet – West Ham United
Price: £9.5m
Ownership: 22%
Position: Midfielder
Let’s face it – if you did have Payet in your starting XI at any point during the last two weeks, you’ve clearly done a lack of research. Whilst the Frenchman was the stand out player out player during Euro 2016, he’s been on a slow road to recovery from his international exploits, picking up a knock along the way as he attempts to regain match fitness. ‘Hold on’, you may say, ‘Payet is set to return next week, why would I sell him now?’. The reasons are simple – with the Hammers’ Europa League campaign in limbo following a 1-1 draw to Astra Giurgiu, Bilic will need his star man to play some part during the tie to ensure they don’t embarrassingly exit the competition for a successive season. Payet is rather unlikely to make an impact against a scarily good Manchester City side at the Ethihad having played in a European fixture just a few days previously. It would be a far safer bet to see how he fares in the international break before deciding to throw him into your squad again.
Ahmed Musa – Leicester City
Price: £7.4m
Ownership: 10%
Position: Striker
Leicester’s record signing looked like he could be a potential surprise package this campaign. Those who tracked the Foxes pre season would have been taken aback by his double against Barcelona and at £7.5m, he seemed like a strong option to have. Alas, this hasn’t been the case. Not only does Musa start in midfield for the Foxes to allow Vardy and Okazaki to continue their title-winning partnership up front, he only got four minutes of game time against Arsenal – far too late to make any sort of impact (although he nearly did earn Leicester a penalty). Perhaps Musa is slowly being eased into the Premier League, but until he is a certain starter, it’s better to avoid the Nigerian for the time being. He is also one of the first strikers to see his value decrease this season.
Gerard Deulofeu – Everton
Price: £6.5m
Ownership: 4%
Position: Midfielder
A strong pre-season and Ronald Koeman’s decision to play him as a make-shift striker made Deulofeu one of the first names in my fantasy league team this season. The former Barcelona winger moved to Merseyside last summer and has since been making a name for himself as an exciting talent. However, Deulofeu hasn’t been able to replicate the form of pre-season in the league and has found life as a forward hard to adjust to in the opening few games. Romelu Lukaku’s decision to stay at Goodison Park followed by the signing of tricky Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie means that it’s highly likely that Deulofeu will drop to the bench for the foreseeable future. Fingers crossed that will be the only time I’m wrong about a player this season.
