‘Fantastic today’ – Mesut Ozil appears to be winning over plenty of Arsenal fans

Arsenal lost 2-1 to Chelsea today but finally found a performance from Mesut Ozil.

The German midfielder has been a shadow of his former self in the last 12 months. He struggled for any game time under Unai Emery and was seemingly on his way out of the club.

However, new manager Mikel Arteta has wiped the slate clean for all his players and he gave Ozil his chance against Chelsea this afternoon.

And the midfielder delivered for the Gunners. Although he was withdrawn with around 20 minutes to play, Ozil’s overall display was akin to that he delivered in his first few seasons with the club.

Ozil had a new confidence about him at times. He glided effortlessly past players and was a real thorn in the side for Chelsea as the Gunners dominated for an hour.

However, Ozil’s performance proved to be in vain. Late goals from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham ensured Frank Lampard’s men left with the three points.

But it was Mesut Ozil and his return to form that captured the eye. Social media was full of positive comments towards Ozil following the game.

It would appear that Arsenal fans are finally getting a glimpse of the player they so desperately want to see.

Having a fit and firing Mesut Ozil can only be a positive for Arsenal. On his day, he’s one of the best creative midfielders in the league.

If he can continue as he did today and build match fitness, then Gunners fans will be happy.

On another otherwise disappointing day, the sight of Ozil in full flight is one that can at least bring an element of pleasure to the Arsenal fans.
