Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion have snapped up Conor Gallagher on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

The 20-year-old midfielder has signed a new five-year deal with his parent club, subsequently linking up with the newly-promoted Baggies for the 2020-21 campaign.

Gallagher spent the first half of last season on loan at Charlton and the second half at Swansea, earning plaudits aplenty for his performances.

Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leeds United were all linked with a move for the England Under-21 international, but West Brom have triumphed in the race for his services.

“There was a lot of interest from the Premier League, which is where I wanted to play this season, but this is where I want to be,” Gallagher told the official WBA website.

“West Brom stood out to me because of the way they played last season. I played against them two or three times and I liked how they approached the game.

“I felt that it would suit me and it would be best for my development. I felt it could help me become the player I want to be and I’m pleased to get this agreement sorted.”

Here is what some Chelsea fans have made of Gallagher’s loan switch to West Brom:

Gallagher joins Branislav Ivanovic, David Button and Cedric Kipre as new arrivals at West Brom, who have also signed Grady Diangana, Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson permanently.
