'Fantastic': Sean Dyche singles out two Everton players who have really impressed him this season
Former Burnley boss Sean Dyche says he’s been really impressed with Everton defenders Conor Coady and James Tarkowski.
Everton won their first match in four on Saturday, comfortably beating Crystal Palace 3-0 at Goodison Park.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first of the season after returning from injury, with Anthony Gordon and Dwight McNeil also getting on the score sheet.
However, Dyche wanted to concentrate on the impact made by two of Everton’s new defenders.
Tarkowski arrived on a free transfer from Dyche’s former club Burnley at the start of the summer.
And Everton pounced on the loan signing of Coady from Wolves when it became clear he wouldn’t be first choice at his previous club.
Dyche has been impressed with Tarkowski and Coady this season, as Everton have one of the league’s best defensive records.
They kept their third clean sheet on Saturday, and the pair will be looking to build on that going forward.
Dyche impressed with Coady and Tarkowski
Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football (24/10 10:51pm), Dyche said: “The two (Everton) centre halves have been fantastic.
“They have made a massive difference, I had one of them of course.”
Frank Lampard pinpointed two positions over the summer that he wanted to improve; centre-back and central midfield.
Coady and Tarkowski have also made a brilliant impact in defence, but Lampard has also completely changed Everton’s midfield.
Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye have come straight into the side and been brilliant for the Toffees.
However, the most important change Lampard has made is moving Alex Iwobi into midfield.
Paul Merson believes Iwobi has been ‘absolutely brilliant’ for Everton and credit needs to go to Lampard for his improvement.
However, as Dyche said, the impressive form of Coady and Tarkowski have given Lampard the platform to allow the likes of Iwobi to thrive in the team.
