‘Fantastic player’, ‘training well’: Jose Mourinho raves about £100k-a-week Spurs player

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has stressed that he’s “never had a problem” with Dele Alli after the Spurs midfielder was dropped for a number of matches this season.

Alli struggled in Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Everton on 13 September and his shift only lasted 45 minutes as Mourinho took him off at half time.

The Spurs boss has omitted Alli from four competitive matchday squads this season, prompting media frenzy over the 24-year-old’s future including links with Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Alli has since returned to the fold, coming off the bench against Maccabi Haifa in midweek and against Manchester United in Sunday’s 6-1 victory.

“He has never stopped showing, I always told that I never had a problem with him,” Mourinho told Sky Sports – transcribed by BBC Sport (18:50) – after the victory against his former side.

“Very polite, very educated, behaving always well, he is training well, sometimes I want different things from him on the pitch.

“That is more about his qualities as a player than other things. He is a fantastic player as everyone knows.”

While Alli may have struggled for form at times, his quality is beyond doubt, as shown by his impressive display against Haifa and his solid performance against the Red Devils.

It’s extremely unlikely that PSG will get their hands on the £100,000-a-week ace before the window shuts, and hopefully in the coming weeks we’ll start seeing the best of him once again.
