‘Fantastic player for us’: Ruben Neves blown away by £50k-a-week Wolves ace

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves has tipped Molineux teammate Pedro Neto to become a “big player” in the world of football.

The 20-year-old winger has been one of the few positives for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in what has been a difficult season.

With Raul Jimenez out injured and Adama Traore in poor form this term, Neto has carried much of the team’s creative responsibilities over the past few months.

That said, the Portuguese ace has done very well, currently leading the way for Wolves both in terms of goals and assists in 2020-21, with five and four respectively.

Neto wowed fans and pundits with a wonderful individual goal against Southampton at the weekend, helping Wolves come from behind to run out 2-1 winners.

And Neves thinks Neto can develop into a top player in the coming years if he continues on the same trajectory.

“Pedro’s been a fantastic player for us since he came,” Neves told the Express & Star. “This season, I think for me he’s been the best player that we have in the squad.

“He still needs to improve, as does everyone, because we always have something that we can improve, but if he keeps playing like that then he’s going to be a big player in the world of football.

“We are really lucky to have him in our team because he can give us a lot of good things that are not easy to find in a player.”

TBR View:

Neto has been sensational for Wolves in recent months and, with his contract taking him to 2025, the Molineux side’s hand is strong with regards to his future.

There’s no doubt that the £50,000-a-week ace has been Wolves’ best player for much of the season – it’s just a shame they have struggled as a collective.

Hopefully Neto will stay put in the summer and next season sees Wanderers go back to the quality of their previous seasons since promotion to the Premier League.
