'Fantastic': Liverpool told they now have a 23-year-old player who's capable of winning them the PL title
The former Reds defender told Eleven that he thinks his old club will win the crown that City scooped on the final day of last term.
Sadio Mane has left Anfield this summer but Darwin has come in to replace him at the forefront of Liverpool’s attack.
And the former Benfica man scored in the 3-1 Community Shield victory over City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Nunez can win Liverpool the title
“The most noticeable difference with Liverpool is looking at the growth of the team,” said Xavier, tipping them to win the league.
“These five years have been fantastic. The last two or three years of have been implementing the tactics that is are now completely solid.
“Liverpool, at the moment, all they need to do is make targeted signings. Last year it was Luis Díaz, this year it was Darwin.
“Darwin’s signing was fantastic. Sadio Mané left, it was an end of the cycle for him. Firmino’s statement and Darwin’s arrival means that Liverpool have the strongest attack in world football.”
City have of course made their own striking addition in the shape of Erling Haaland and plenty could rest on which of the frontmen adjusts better to life in England.
Diaz hit the ground running after his January move, but that is generally the exception rather than the rule. Even Thiago took time to adjust to the Premier League.
It looks set to be another epic title fight between City and Liverpool and can Nunez be the man to make the difference? Time will tell.
