‘Fantastic’… Ian Wright really impressed with £30m Arsenal player despite Liverpool loss

Despite suffering another gut-wrenching loss against Liverpool yesterday, Ian Wright did see some positives in Arsenal’s performance.

Like every other Arsenal fan, Wright was extremely frustrated that his side couldn’t finish their chances.

However, when considering how well Mikel Arteta’s side did play in the first half, there are still some reasons to be optimistic.

And when discussing the FA Cup exit against Liverpool on his podcast ‘Wright’s House’, Ian Wright was full of praise for one Arsenal player.

Aaron Ramsdale returned to the team in the cup and produced a stellar display, and was unlucky not to be rewarded with an assist in the first half.

Ramsdale played a brilliant through ball to Reiss Nelson, who ultimately failed to take the chance.

And Wright was certainly impressed: “It was a fantastic pass from Ramsdale, who I’ve got to say, really pleased to see Ramsdale having such a good game. Really played well today.”

Of course, every Ramsdale and David Raya display are now scrutinised to the highest degree.

Although he was confident and solid throughout, some still questioned Ramsdale’s authority in dealing with the delivery that led to Jakub Kiwior’s own goal.

Such is the situation Arteta has created with his keepers, it almost felt as if Ramsdale took as much blame for Kiwior’s own goal as the defender did – which is incredibly harsh.

Whether the £30m keeper reached the ball or not, Kiwior should have done so much better.

Ian Wright was correct to praise Ramsdale for his performance against Liverpool, one that reminded what he can offer to Arsenal.

Many fans would still love to see the England international as their number one, a player they have grown to trust.

But if those same fans think Arteta will suddenly change his mind, they may be disappointed.

Moreover, it doesn’t seem as if the club will budge on their position on signing a striker in January either.

Instead, it seems they may now make a surprise move for a £62m Chelsea player.
