Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has been described as a “fantastic football player” by Kris Boyd, who named the Hoops ace in his combined Celtic and Rangers XI ahead of tomorrow’s derby.

Neil Lennon’s charges welcome Steven Gerrard’s side to Parkhead hoping to leapfrog their rivals at the top of the Premiership table, a springboard to then pull away with their game in hand.

McGregor is likely to have a big say in how the game will pan out, and in the Scottish Sun, former Gers ace Boyd named him in a midfield three alongside Scott Brown and Steven Davis.

“I think Callum’s just a fantastic football player,” wrote Boyd. “He works tirelessly for the team and chips in with goals and assists.”

McGregor came through the ranks at Celtic and, following an impressive loan spell at English lower-league side Notts County, set about making a name for himself at Parkhead.

To date, the 27-year-old has made 287 competitive appearances for the Bhoys, registering 51 goals and 58 assists, and has won a multitude of trophies including six Premiership titles.

There isn’t really much more that can be said about McGregor, one of Celtic’s finest homegrown players in recent years, who has written his name in Parkhead folklore thanks to his displays, hard work, and silverware haul.

With Celtic hoping to win a tenth title in a row but an ever-improving Rangers snapping at their heels, tomorrow is an absolutely crucial game, but if anyone can have a significant impact on the game, it’s the £20,000-a-week ace.
