Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been praised by Alan Shearer following the Reds’ Premier League victory at Anfield last weekend, in conversation with the Premier League website.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges hosted Bournemouth in Saturday’s early kickoff hoping to get back to winning ways after two defeats in a row, having lost to Watford in the league and Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Liverpool got off to a difficult start and fell behind in controversial circumstances as Callum Wilson slotted his ninth goal of the season inside the opening 10 minutes despite an apparent push on Joe Gomez in the build-up.

However, the Reds surged back as Mohamed Salah equalised in the 25th minute after salvaging Mane’s delivery, and the Senegal international then grabbed what turned out to be the winner just eight minutes later.

Mane’s exploits in matchweek 29 saw him named in the latest Premier League Team of the Week by Shearer, who said of the £100,000-a-week ace: “Liverpool’s fantastic winger scored a crucial winning goal. He and his team-mates showed great character to come back.”

Although Liverpool suffered a minor downturn in form, largely due to the absence of the injured Jordan Henderson, the Reds have nonetheless tried their best and were able to go 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League table at the weekend.

Mane was crucial in the game and prevented what could have been a morale-sapping third defeat in a row, but then again he is crucial for Liverpool full stop, what with having claimed 18 goals and 12 assists this season (Transfermarkt).

Up next for Liverpool is Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid and though the Reds are a goal down in the tie, they will hopefully have enough to overturn the deficit and continue their quest to win a second consecutive Champions League trophy.
