‘Fantastic’: Ben Parker raves about piece of Leeds business they completed last week
Ben Parker says that Leeds United have done a “fantastic bit of business” to sign their star Ilan Meslier down to a new contract.
The Whites announced last week that the 21-year-old has penned a long-term deal to commit his future at Elland Road.
Meslier, who’s the undisputed number one goalkeeper for Leeds, is now under contract with the Yorkshire giants until 2026.
It wasn’t a dream start to the new Premier League season for him on the weekend. The shot-stopper conceded five goals at Old Trafford in the heavy defeat against Manchester United. However, supporters know how much quality he’s got.
The Frenchman kept 11 clean sheets during 35 league appearances last season and has real maturity for someone so young.
Parker is over the moon that Meslier has extended his contract.
“To get him down for five years is a fantastic bit of business for the club,” Parker told the LS11 podcast.
“He deserves it. A good reward for what’s been a really good 18 months when he’s come into the team. We need him to have another good season as well.
“He’s one of the best keepers in the league. His age as well, you can see him being our number one for years and years to come.”
Meslier contract is amazing for Leeds
If any elite clubs are on the search for a new goalkeeper, surely Leeds talent Meslier will pop up on their radar. Fortunately, Leeds are now in a very strong position where their goalkeeper has a long-term deal.
His aerial presence in the box is a massive bonus for Bielsa’s team. Also, he fits in perfectly given his range of passing and comfort on the ball, something a lot of modern day goalkeepers have.
