Fans wish Pennington well after injury cuts short his loan spell with Ipswich

Promising defender Matthew Pennington has spent the season on loan from Everton to Ipswich Town in the Championship.

Despite Marco Silva looking to freshen up his Toffees backline, there was no space for the Englishman, who was forced to look for increased gametime in the second tier.

Under Mick McCarthy, Ipswich were the archetypal mid-table mediocre side, but this season they have slumped down to the bottom of the Championship table and look certain for relegation.

But despite that, Pennington has impressed, up until the weekend when his season and loan spell were cut short by torn ankle ligaments.

And that was reflected in the outpouring of praise from Ipswich fans upon the news, with many stating that Pennington was their player of the season.

Everton and Pennington will hope that he can make a full recovery from what threatens to be a nasty injury and use the momentum generated from his impressive loan spell and force his way into Silva’s thinking next season.
