The race to finish in the top four appears to be at an end. Arsenal and Manchester United both played out disappointing draws against Brighton and Huddersfield respectively earlier today.
Those results mean United cannot catch Spurs whilst Arsenal would require an eight-goal swing in goal difference on the final day. Whilst Spurs do play an in-form Everton on the final day, it is hard to see such a scenario playing out.
Over the past few weeks, it has seemed like nobody wants to make the top four.
Manchester United have imploded whilst Champions League and Europa League distractions appear to have cost Tottenham, Chelsea, and Arsenal recent league form.
For Tottenham fans, the main priority now has to be Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second-leg against Ajax in Amsterdam.
Online, many football fans have been laughing at the way Tottenham appear to have crawled over the finish line into fourth.
Tottenham, often accused of being ‘Spursy’, have luckily been helped by the woeful form of the other teams in the top four race. But ultimately, they would deserve top four for the brilliant first half of the season. Considering the stadium drama, lack of signings and the number of players who went far at the World Cup in the summer, it has been a brilliant achievement from Mauricio Pochettino.
Despite the recent bad form at Spurs, by this time next week, they could have secured third in the Premier League and be in the Champions League final.
Wouldn’t that be an incredible answer to the critics…?
#THFC Next Sunday NBC uses all its TV platforms (it has a lot of them!) 2 show all 10 PL games at the same time. Smorgasboard of footballl. One match I surely will not be watching is TOTEVE.Overjoyed they’ve almost backed into Top 4 but sick of seeing them flounder .

Be a fair few deleting their tweets or eating their words after the negativity yesterday. Yes we’ve limped across the line but at start of season if you’d offered top 4 & a CL semi (at worst) every #THFC fan on the planet takes that all day long. #COYS

Our good first two thirds of the league season means we deserve it. This drop off was inevitable, considering the injuries and how many we had in the latter stages of the WC. But to still be in the CL, be top 4, and make the League Cup semi finals, despite all that, is brilliant.
