Fans react as Liverpool reportedly close in on Sam McCallum

More than 20 clubs have been scouting McCallum.

Liverpool are set to beat a host of clubs to the signing of Sam McCallum, according to 90min.

Coventry City defender McCallum has had more than 20 clubs scouting him this season. He has become a regular in the Coventry starting line-up, taking Brandon Mason’s spot at left-back.

Chelsea, Leicester City and Manchester City are just three clubs keen on McCallum. But Liverpool appear to be in pole position to land the teenager. The Reds have opened discussions over this potential deal.

McCallum has already played 26 games, including 18 matches this season. Last month, he netted his first senior goal as his long-range free-kick evaded all of the Colchester United defenders.

Liverpool plan to send the 19-year-old back to Coventry for the remainder of the season. He is part of a promotion push with the Sky Blues and is getting regular playing time in League One.

But for the long-term future, McCallum might be Liverpool’s option. Next season, he might provide cover for Andrew Robertson before pushing for starts in the future. Here are some tweets about the McCallum rumours.
