Fans react as Leeds star Kalvin Phillips is named England men's Player of the Year

Trevor Sinclair has joined a host of fans of rival clubs to laud Kalvin Phillips after the Leeds United star was voted England men’s Player of the Year – and found out in a fantastic video involving Declan Rice.

It is remarkable to think that a year ago Phillips had not yet represented his country. In fact, he had not even made his Premier League debut.

But the 25-year-old has been a revelation once again over the last 12 months. He was outstanding as Leeds finished ninth in the top flight.

And his performances for club and country saw Gareth Southgate hand the Yorkshire Pirlo a prominent role at Euro 2020.

Along with Rice, the pair formed a superb midfield partnership as England went all the way to the final.

The West Ham man was arguably the best player on the pitch against Italy. But there is no question that Phillips enjoyed a stunning tournament.

So it should not come as a huge surprise that Phillips was named the England men’s Player of the Year. Although the midfielder himself noted that Leeds fans may have played a part in the 40,000 votes he received.

England announced the winner with a superb video showing Rice presenting the award to Phillips, who clearly had no idea he was about to win.

Of course, Phillips was lauded by many Leeds fans. But there were also messages from several supporters of rival clubs – highlighting just how impressive and likeable he is.

Meanwhile, Phillips was also praised by former England midfielder Sinclair.
