Fans mock Lovren after Croatia slip to late England defeat and suffer relegation

Jurgen Klopp has been tasked with overhauling Liverpool’s defence during his time at Anfield and that has included getting a tune out of Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian was impressive at Southampton but struggled with the expectation that comes with playing for the Reds under Brendan Rodgers.

Unable to secure a big-money replacement, Klopp had to use his coaching ability and motivational techniques to get Lovren into the right shape to play for a Champions League club.

It hasn’t always been successful and Lovren has made high-profile mistakes at times. But in the past year, Lovren has made it to the Champions League final and the World Cup final and something appears to have changed in his attitude.

Perhaps part of Klopp’s strategy was simply to get Lovren to believe he belongs at the very top level and if it was, then it’s been successful.

Lovren has been very vocal in recent times about how good he thinks he is and he was not shy in coming forward about that before England’s crunch clash with Croatia yesterday.

So as England secured a 2-1 win and a place in the Nations League semi-finals, some fans couldn’t resist taking aim…
