Fans discuss Arsenal loanee Lucas Torreira after Fiorentina loss
A number of fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Lucas Torreira after watching the Arsenal loanee in action for Fiorentina against Inter Milan on Tuesday.
What’s the story?
Torreira started in the middle of La Viola’s midfield three against the Nerazzurri. And Vincenzo Italiano’s side got off to a flyer.
They went 1-0 up midway through the first-half.
Unfortunately, the game would end in defeat for Fiorentina. Inter scored three times after the break to move back to the top of the Serie A table.
Torreira was taken off after 65 minutes. The Uruguayan was actually the first player to be replaced for the home side.
But it would appear that many did not agree with Italiano’s decision.
The 25-year-old was making only his second league start in the defeat.
And he certainly seemed to make a positive impact. Only four Fiorentina players managed a greater number of successful passes – and they all saw out the 90 minutes (Whoscored).
He also read the game excellently, making three interceptions.
And many, including some Arsenal fans, felt compelled to take to social media to praise his performance.
It is hard to see Torreira playing for the Gunners again. Unfortunately, the writing appears to be on the wall at the Emirates.
But the door is not shut entirely. It remains to be seen if Fiorentina pursue a permanent move. And much may depend on what the future holds for Mikel Arteta.
For some, not getting more out of him remains a frustration. Plenty of fans were extremely impressed by his display against Inter.
With that in mind, here is what some were saying about Torreira after Tuesday’s clash…
‘Played well’: Lucas Torreira praised after Fiorentina loss
only “mistake” from Italiano today was taking Torreira off, I think. he was playing a good game. things seemed to go downhill from there

Torreira actually played well

Good game by Torreira I liked what I saw, impressive passing range + ball winning (as you’d expect). The 2 Inter goals were poor to concede (started with poor buildup by Duncan and Dragowski)
They can still get back in this with quick switches of play + pressing Handanovic more.

Lucas Torreira impressed for Fiorentina once again today. Was key while building attacks from deep, always wanted the ball, often charged forward from deeper midfield and made some interceptions too.

Lucas Torreira subbed off after 65 minutes, while he was one of Fiorentina’s best players in the second half.
Regardless, it’s fantastic to see the midfielder back playing and doing well. As a regista, Torreira never disappoints. He is perfect for that position.

Seeing Torreira playing, wondering why he doesn’t get into Arsenals squad.
