Liverpool should not have had too many problems seeing off Fulham at Craven Cottage yesterday but Scott Parker’s men battled manfully.
And when Ryan Babel pounced on an awful defensive mistake from his Dutch international team-mate Virgil van Dijk to make it 1-1, Liverpool entered the final stages of the match frantically searching for a goal.
But before it got to the point where they were throwing the kitchen sink at their hosts, Cottagers goalkeeper Sergio Rico handed them a gift with two blinding errors.
First, he dropped Mo Salah’s shot when he should have caught it, before bringing down Sadio Mane – who had earlier opened the scoring – when he raced onto the loose ball, but was moving away from goal.

James Milner stepped up and as he always does, slotted home the penalty with a minimum of fuss to clinch a vital victory for the Reds to put them back to the top of the Premier League.
And given the widespread interest in the title race, it wasn’t just Fulham fans weighing in with criticism of Rico. Other supporters couldn’t understand what the stopper was playing at and we’ve put the best of the exasperated reaction together…
