On transfer deadline day, Tottenham Hotspur managed to secure the signatures of both Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon from Real Betis and Fulham respectively. However, another player they were strongly linked with did not make the move to North London.
Paulo Dybala had emerged as an ambitious transfer target for Tottenham and on transfer deadline day eve, it seemed Spurs might just pull a deal off.
As reported by talkSPORT, Tottenham had even agreed a £64.4 million fee with Juventus for the Argentine forward. The deal failed to materialise. Many reasons were given for why. The BBC stated that Juventus simply pulled the plug. Rumours over his desire to leave Turin and an image rights issue also emerged but Football.London simply stated Juventus did not have a replacement lined up so backed out.

Tottenham fans were left very disappointed, as Dybala could have been an absolute star for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Yesterday he showed exactly why.
Dybala started for Juventus in their final pre-season friendly before Serie A kicks off next week. The Bianconeri were taking on third-tier side Triestina and won the game 1-0, thanks to a special Dybala goal.
The 25-year-old pulled off an audacious chip over home side goalkeeper Daniel Offredi, although did miss a penalty early in the second-half.
After bagging a brace in the traditional Primavera friendly earlier this week, it seems Dybala is in good form heading into the new campaign. Tottenham fans will just wish they could have got this deal over the line.
