Raheem Sterling to Arsenal is the big story heading into the final stretch of transfer deadline day.

Arsenal are trying to sign Sterling on loan late in the day, but, as ever, this deal isn’t going to be easy.

Arsenal are dealing with a superstar here. Sterling is on massive money, and bringing in a player like this so late in the window isn’t easy.

Speaking on his deadline day livestream, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing this Sterling deal, and he says that Arsenal and Chelsea need to be creative if they’re going to reach an agreement.

Arsenal and Chelsea need to be creative with Sterling deal

Romano spoke about how this deal could be done.

“The Sterling deal, Arsenal are in contact with Chelsea. Contacts are ongoing. Of course, it has to be a loan, so they have to be creative now with a few hours left before the end of the window, so let’s see,” Romano said.

Raheem Sterling deal is complicated

This isn’t any ordinary deal, this is a move for one of the most high-profile players in the Premier League on huge wages.

It was reported by Nizaar Kinsella earlier today that Arsenal had big issues with this Sterling deal.

“Arsenal have been offered winger Raheem Sterling but he can’t leave until issues around a pay-out for losing some of his projected earnings while on over £300,000-a-week will be key,’ Kinsella wrote.

“If all bonuses are met, his side believe they are owed a staggering £70m, which would have to be made up, or a loss negotiated between him, the buying club and Chelsea.”

These issues haven’t magically gone away, and while a loan deal does may the pay-off element of this deal easier, the huge wages are still on the table.

As Romano says, Arsenal and Chelsea will have to be creative if they’re to find a way to get a deal done before the 11PM deadline.

There could yet be more twists and turns in this Sterling story.
