Brighton & Hove Albion are seemingly edging closer to the signing of Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors.

The Seagulls have all-but secured the services of the Argentina Under-23 international over the past few days.

As per the Daily Mail, Barco – who was also on the radar of Manchester City – had a medical with Brighton on Thursday.

On Friday night, Fabrizio Romano took to X with a further update on the state of play involving the Seagulls and the 19-year-old.

As per his sources, Barco has signed a long-term deal at the Amex Stadium which runs until the summer of 2028, with a club option to extend until 2029.

All that is left now is for the clubs to put out an official statement, with Brighton already having paid Boca a release clause worth around £7.9million.

Brighton have made quite a name for themselves in terms of scouting and signing exciting gems in recent years and turning them into Premier League stars.

For instance, the Seagulls signed Moises Caicedo from Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle for £4.5million in the summer of 2021.

Two years later, Brighton sold him to Chelsea for a reported £115million.

Barco is another very exciting prospect, having made a name for himself at one of Argentina’s biggest clubs.

He has played 35 times for Boca since breaking into their first team in 2021 and featured in the Copa Libertadores final against Fluminense last year.

Barco is set to join a Brighton side seventh in the Premier League table, in the Europa League knockouts, and in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
