Arsenal have inserted a hefty sell-on clause into the deal which has seen Marquinhos return to Brazil with Fluminense.
Arsenal secured an unbelievable bargain by signing Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano for just £6million in 2019.
You could therefore hardly blame Arsenal for looking back towards the Brazilian market in the hope of signing another gem.
Edu pounced in the summer of 2022, paying just £3million to lure Marquinhos away from Sao Paulo.
This felt like a Martinelli-like move, but it really hasn’t worked out in the same way.
Arsenal sell-on clause for Marquinhos explained
Marquinhos has completed a loan move back to Brazil, joining Fluminense until January 2025.
A dismal loan spell with Nantes was cut short to make the deal happen and he may yet leave Arsenal for good.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal have placed a 50% sell-on clause into the Marquinhos deal.
Fluminense have the option to make the move permanent and Arsenal would then be entitled to 50% of any fee should he be sold down the line.
Arsenal clearly still feel that Marquinhos could be worth something in the future and don’t want to risk missing out on a chunk of cash.

Marquinhos certainly has plenty of inspiration in terms of leaving Arsenal and looking to become a star elsewhere.
Serge Gnabry is a great example, failing to make the grade in North London before becoming a star at Bayern Munich.
Donyell Malen has gone on to become a solid Bundesliga forward after leaving Arsenal whilst Ismael Bennacer is now one of Serie A’s top midfielders.
Marquinhos needs to put a nightmare spell with Nantes behind him and now get back to his best with Fluminense.
Arsenal will ultimately be hoping for that too, with that clause potentially crucial in the coming years as the 20-year-old looks to get back on track.
