Arsenal are now edging ever closer to Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori becoming Mikel Arteta’s second summer signing ahead of the new season.
Having joined the club on loan last season, David Raya has officially become an Arsenal player this summer, a deal that was never really in doubt.
But with Arsenal jetting off to the US for their pre-season tour on Sunday it seems as if Edu has recognised the need to step up the pace in the transfer market.
And to that end, it was recently reported that Arsenal were one step away from signing Calafiori – who is incredibly keen to make the switch to north London.
Arteta intends to use Calafiori as an inverted full-back, perhaps intended to compete with Jurrien Timber in the early weeks of the season.

Jakub Kiwior will now primarily be considered a left centre-back and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s minutes will likely see a significant reduction.
All that being said, Romano has now shared a further update on the state of Calafiori’s move to Arsenal, saying there will be a new round of talks on Sunday.
Fabrizio Romano says Riccardo Calafiori’s Arsenal medical could be next week
Romano shared his fresh update on X and said that the deal was just waiting for Bologna and Basel to agree a structure for their sell-on clause payment.
The journalist said the medical won’t take place on Sunday, but could happen swiftly next week.
Romano stated: “More on Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal exclusive story.
“New round of talks ready on Sunday in order to close the deal, just waiting for Bologna and FC Basel to agree on a sell-on clause payment structure.
“No medical tomorrow, formal steps and signature expected next week.”
Of course, Arsenal will be incredibly keen to wrap up the signing – one that has likely taken too long from their perspective.
In terms of Calafiori joining Arsenal on their US tour, the Gunners play their last friendly in the States on August 1st against Liverpool.
And therefore if the Italian defender does seal a permanent deal to Arsenal imminently, it seems more likely that his first minutes will come in the Emirates Cup – which begins August 7th.
All that being said, TBR Football recently shared what Arsenal intend to do with Thomas Partey this summer.
