'Talks with Liverpool': Fabrizio Romano's intriguing update on 'incredible' 27-year-old international
Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Liverpool midfielder, Naby Keita, as the Reds player faces an uncertain future.
There is a belief at the club that tying Keita down to a new contract would suit everyone. However, as of yet, there has been no sign of an offer and Keita himself has been quiet on the issue as well.
And writing for CaughtOffside this weekend, respected journalist and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, says that while talks are ongoing, Keita has interest from elsewhere as well.
“There are ongoing contacts between Naby Keita’s camp and Liverpool to decide about the future. There’s been a lot of interest around him for a long time but no official bids,” Romano explained.
“Talks with Liverpool will continue, Keita wants to understand how important he’ll be for Klopp in the future before making his final decision.”
Keita has failed to hit the heights many expected of him when Jurgen Klopp convinced Liverpool to shell out more than £50m on him back in 2017. Despite that inconsistent form, though, Klopp did insist Keita had his best season in a Liverpool shirt last season.
However, this term hasn’t got going either for the Guinea international and it remains to be seen just how much Liverpool and Klopp can get out of him before the season is done with.
TBR’s View: Keita And Liverpool Should Part Ways
From Liverpool’s perspective, it’s probably important for them to tie Keita down in order for them to get some sort of fee back if they do decide he can move on. However, for Keita, he’ll be looking at the free market and thinking it’s a good chance to move on.
Injuries haven’t helped his cause at all but you do feel that Keita should and could have done more in a red shirt.
There have been glimpses. But in the end, if Liverpool and Keita do go separate ways, then it’s not the end of the world.
