Fabrizio Romano shares fresh transfer update on Newcastle and Kieran Trippier
Newcastle United fans are still waiting for the Magpies to announce Kieran Trippier’s arrival at St James’ Park.
The Magpies have been linked with the England international for a number of weeks now.
Now, it looks as though Trippier will become Newcastle’s first signing of the PIF era.
Sky Sports have claimed that Newcastle agreed a fee of around £12million, plus add-ons, with Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, Chronicle Live have reported that Trippier has passed his medical on Tyneside.
However, there hasn’t been an official club announcement yet.
This has made some Toon fans nervous, but Fabrizio Romano has sought to reassure supporters.
Chronicle Live has reported that, with Atletico currently in Copa del Rey action, they’re likely to delay the announcement until Friday morning.
The Spanish club reportedly want the announcement to be at a mutual time so they can say goodbye to the player via their social media channels.
This shows the level of respect they have for the England international and how they sanctioned his departure with a heavy heart, added the local outlet.
Trippier joined Atletico from Tottenham in 2019 for a reported £20million.
He has made 86 appearances for the Spanish capital side, winning La Liga last season.
Trippier has also won 35 England caps and featured in the Euro 2020 final.
