Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now been providing a contract update on a player who’s often been linked with Arsenal recently.

It’s certainly no secret that Mikel Arteta will be looking to improve his playing staff this summer, and he should have a considerable war chest.

Arsenal spent big signing Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber last summer, and we could see a similar repeat.

Perhaps another midfielder akin to Rice’s talent, and a striker to replace Eddie Nkeitah are of the highest priority, but it would be a surprise if the club stopped there.

And with that in mind, Fabrizio Romano has now been providing the latest on the future of Xavi Simons, an excellent talent who’s regularly linked with Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is thought to be an admirer of the ‘world class‘ Dutch international, a player who would compliment his front line.

And on ‘The Here We Go Podcast’, Romano has now detailed that the Arsenal target may be about to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, or at least that’s what his parent club envision.

Fabrizio Romano says PSG want to sign a new contract with Arsenal-linked Xavi Simons

Speaking on the podcast, Romano explained that Simon’s future is likely to be resolved before the summer, and PSG would like him to be one of faces of their new era after Kylian Mbappe.

Romano said: “For Xavi Simons, let me say, from what I’m hearing at the moment there are still no negotiations over a new contract between PSG and Xavi Simons.

“The player is on at Leipzig but his situation will be clarified between April and May, so at the moment they are not negotiating a new deal with Xavi Simons but he is one the talents they want to involve in this new project like Warren Zaire-Emery.”

Of course, Romano’s update on that new contract would probably bring an end to Arsenal’s interest, if a new agreement is reached.

And in truth, some fans may consider that Emile Smith Rowe can already play a similar role at the club already.

It will certainly be an intriguing one to follow, but perhaps funds could be better spent elsewhere.

That being said, Mikel Arteta is said to absolutely love a midfielder who could be available this summer.
