Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham have been scouting £86m player ‘for months’ at this point

Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a new striker this summer as Ange Postecoglou’s side look to add more firepower.

The north London club have been scouring the market for strikers for 12 months now after selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

Dominic Solanke is said to be a player Spurs are keen on, but according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The Debrief, there’s another striker Tottenham have had their eyes on for a while.

Indeed, according to Romano, Tottenham have been scouting Viktor Gyokeres for months.

Romano shared what he knows about the striker.

“At this point I’m not aware of anything advanced or concrete. The appreciation of the player has always been there. He’s a player Arsenal have been scouting for months, but not only Arsenal, many clubs around Europe, including Tottenham,” Romano said.

“Gyokeres is appreciated by many clubs, and don’t forget he has a release clause that is €100m (£86m) and negotiating with Sporting is always complicated.”

Gyokeres deal may not be possible

Tottenham are clearly keen on Gyokeres, but it would be a serious surprise if this deal were to be done.

Sporting want £86m for Gyokeres this summer, and that would be a club-record signing for Tottenham by quite some distance.

Tottenham do have plenty of money in the bank having sold Harry Kane for a huge fee last summer, but with a number of new signings potentially needed this summer, it’s hard to imagine that Spurs will be able to get this deal over the line.

Gyokeres is an exciting player who will surely get a move at some point, but this may be a step too far for Tottenham
