Newcastle United have been really active on the market this summer.

Issues with PSR put the Magpies in the headlines earlier in the window, but despite some difficulties, they managed to get out of a potential problem.

Now, Eddie Howe is pushing hard to reinforce his Newcastle side, and it is clear as day who his top target currently is – Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on the situation on GiveMeSport.

Newcastle could still sign Marc Guehi despite three rejected bids

Newcastle have been pushing really hard to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer.

The defender has been brilliant for the Eagles and he was fantastic for England at Euro 2024 as well. He was arguably their best defender in Germany.

It was always expected that Guehi would move on to a bigger club, and Howe made him his top target a few weeks ago.

The Toon’s first two bids to sign the defender both failed. TBR Football exclusive revealed that Newcastle have made a third bid of £60 million for Guehi.

However, that was rejected too as Palace want at least £65 million, which likely means more than that, to part ways with their star defender.

Despite failing with three offers, Romano has revealed that Newcastle remain confident about signing Guehi and there is a ‘concrete chance’ this deal goes through in the coming days.

Romano said: “They are still trying, and the negotiation is active. The player is keen on the move, so I think there is a chance, a concrete chance, to see Marc Guehi join Newcastle this summer.

“So I think it’s going to be interesting to see what happens. But Newcastle’s confidence in getting Guehi is still high.”

What Crystal Palace’s chairman has publicly claimed about Guehi deal?

The Guehi transfer saga has dragged on over the last few weeks.

Newcastle United are really keen to sign the Englishman. He is their top target and they want him over any other defender.

Crystal Palace would ideally want to keep hold of Guehi, who their chairman Steve Parish has branded as a ‘superstar’, but they are open to selling him if their valuation is met.

Parish told Sky Sports: “Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money. It’s not near the point where we have to make a decision.

“We love having him and would love to keep him. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He’s a generational talent.”
