Fabrizio Romano says Spurs ace deemed ‘one of the best’ likely to leave in January

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has a “huge” chance of leaving the North London club in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old has started just one Premier League game for Spurs this term and has only played for 74 minutes in the top flight, his overall appearance tally currently standing at 10 games and 341 minutes’ worth of action.

Having played in Spurs’ previous two matches, albeit as a late substitute, Alli didn’t even make the bench for Sunday’s home defeat to Leicester, even though he wasn’t injured and Jose Mourinho was allowed two extra substitutes.

Alli has been linked with a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain, Everton and Newcastle over the past few weeks, but Romano believes that he could be headed out on a permanent basis and claims “now is the time” to prepare for his exit.

Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Romano said: “We have to pay attention to Dele Alli in January, because he can leave the club.

“There are huge chances to see Dele Alli out of Tottenham in January – now, we need to understand where he’s going, because last summer we had rumours about Real Madrid, but they are not going to sign any players in January as they did last summer.

“We have to see what happens with Paris Saint-Germain, we know PSG are looking for this type of player and they have seen a lot in Dele Alli, so it’s possible they will try again.

“But at the moment, the player is focusing on talking with the club, he has to talk with Daniel Levy to understand the price, what kind of formula they have to find to sell Dele Alli, if it’s a loan or a permanent deal.

“Now is the time to prepare the exit of Dele Alli from Tottenham, but there are huge chances to see the player out of Tottenham in January.”

While Alli may have struggled for form at times, the talent and quality is there, as shown by his impressive displays against the likes of Manchester United and Maccabi Haifa.

However, he doesn’t look to be in Mourinho’s plans and, as Football London wrote earlier this month, Alli would need something of an injury crisis right now if he’s not even getting into the “second XI”.

Just over a year ago, the Portuguese declared that Alli is “too good to not be one of the best players in the world and not playing with the national team,” but with the midfielder now not even playing for his club, it’s indeed likely that he’ll leave.
