Newcastle United had a very disappointing summer transfer window.
The Magpies were almost completely inactive this summer as they failed to secure a number of top targets.
Marc Guehi was strongly linked with a move to Newcastle, but that deal didn’t go ahead.
Newcastle needed a new centre-back and a new winger through the door this summer, but, in the end, they ended up with neither.
However, it wasn’t for the lack of trying. Guehi was tracked for a long time, as was Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Madueke’s situation, and he says that the winger was indeed a target for Newcastle and Eddie Howe’s side genuinely thought he would be the perfect signing at one point.
Newcastle thought Noni Madueke could be perfect
Romano shared what he knows about Newcastle’s interest in the £29m man.
“They’re very happy with Noni. The possibility of going to Newcastle was there in June. For Newcastle he was considered a perfect player. He was in the list of two clubs, Newcastle and also at RB Leipzig they were looking for a winger,” Romano said.

Noni Madueke won’t join Newcastle now
Newcastle did a great job in identifying a talented player in Noni Madueke, but, unfortunately, it looks as though this ship has sailed.
Madueke has now become a very important player for Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, and his pricetag will have skyrocketed.
Madueke earned his first England call-up earlier this season, and it’s hard to see the winger leaving Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
That said, Chelsea can be incredibly unpredictable in the transfer market, so perhaps in 12 months’ time, Newcastle could end up revisiting this deal.
Madueke would’ve been a brilliant addition to this Newcastle side, that’s for sure.
