Fabrizio Romano says Manchester City star Eric Garcia has signed Barcelona deal

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Tuesday morning that Manchester City defender Eric Garcia has signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona that will see the Spaniard move to the La Liga giants on a five-year deal.

Garcia, 20, has been in and around the Manchester City side this season but with John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias ahead of him in the pecking order – game time has been limited. He has played 10 times.

However, that could also be put down to his contractual situation. Garcia is set to see his City contract expire this summer – just four years after joining the club from Barcelona’s youth team in 2017. He has played 33 times for City.

A return has been touted for some time and now respected Italian journalist Romano has confirmed that the seven-time Spain international is now set to return to his boyhood club – and has penned a five-year deal.

TBR’s view – Garcia was never going to break in at City

While it could be argued that a move to Barcelona might also see Garcia struggle for game time, he has much more chance of game time. With the aforementioned four central defenders, £14k-a-week (Spotrac) Garcia is fifth choice.

But at Barcelona, Ronald Koeman is at the helm of a rebuild. Centre-back is a weak side of the Barcelona team, and Garcia has a real chance of establishing himself in his boyhood club’s starting line-up. A move that suits all parties.
