Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool have sent scouts to keep tabs on Rodrigo de Paul, as per the Que Golazo podcast.
Last week, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (print edition, page 25, Friday 15 January 2021) claimed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was ready to rival Leeds United for the signature of the highly-rated Udinese midfielder.
With Georginio Wijnaldum’s Anfield future in doubt, Liverpool were apparently looking at De Paul – who can operate as a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder or a winger – as a potential replacement.

Romano has rubbished any potential January interest from Anfield in the Argentina international, but kept the door firmly open on things possibly happening during the summer transfer window.
“In this moment Liverpool are not moving to sign De Paul in January, so we can say this is absolutely something that is completely not real,” Romano told the podcast.
“Next summer we will see because here in Italy we have rumours about Mino Raiola approaching Rodrigo De Paul as possibly his new player, so he is trying to get De Paul as his new player, and when there is Mino Raiola in the air, something big can happen.
“At the moment for Liverpool there is nothing, they sent their scouts to scout Rodrigo De Paul because we are talking about a good player, also a talented midfielder who always scores here in Serie A, but at the moment he is not a target for January.”
TBR View:
An incredibly versatile and talented player with plenty of experience at the highest level, De Paul is a cut above at Udinese and surely it won’t be long before he makes the step up.
“He lacks absolutely nothing, he could play in any club in the world,” his former boss Julio Velazquez told Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Tuttomercatoweb.
“He has also improved on the defensive level and in attack he improves the team.”
Admittedly, Liverpool are in no need to bolster their midfield ranks at this moment in time – centre-back is a much more pressing area – but with Wijnaldum potentially leaving Anfield in the summer, De Paul wouldn’t be a bad shout as a replacement.
